ViewPublica is a new, independent think-tank focused on highlighting the themes around what is increasingly understood by the general population to mean ‘Broken Britain.’ Political instability in Britain has led not just to economic instability but policy failure across the spectrum of public services – now described by the Institute for Government (an independent think tank) as in a “perpetual state of decline since 2010.”
Public services are crumbling as a direct result of austerity and lack of investment in infrastructure and modernisation – and has markedly increased the dangers of getting the country stuck in a doom-loop state of multiple crises that could soon become unmanageable.
We work across a wide range of economic and social policy arenas, with a commitment to analytical and fact-based rigour.
ViewPublica is fundamentally centred around the political economy. The relationships between individuals, communities and society more widely and between markets and the state are fully interconnected. Nothing that you can think of is not political. This ranges from the chair you sit on, tap water, carpets and food – to education, health and security. Everything in life has political policy driving regulation. On a social level, this means political ideology and public policy meet reality for the lived experience of millions.
At ViewPublica, we consider the effects that policy has on not just the economy and public finances but the outcomes on housing, public health, inequality, welfare, income, taxes, debt and more. We also take a magnifying glass to the impending new crisis emerging from intergenerational tensions.
ViewPublica exists to help inform public debate and nudge key decision-makers not just in government but also in the private sector and civil society. It is led by Graham Vanbergen, alongside other organisations.
